Annihilation
by Jeff VanderMeer
2014 Nebula award winner for best novel, Annihilation takes the reading into “Area X” amongst an unnamed four woman team searching for answers. Reminiscent of Tarkovsky’s “Stalker”; the true enemy being what you take into the zone with you…like when Luke Skywalker took his lightsaber into that tree on Dagobah after Yoda was like, “ya’ll don’t need that” and then all of the sudden Darth Vader shows up and Luke kills him and it was actually him all along! It’s like that.
Adapted into an equally wonderful film by Alex Garland in 2018, hence this embarrassing movie tie-in paperback edition.
